Re: Fascinating atheist veridical nde conversion

Philip wrote:[... tome ignoring my point about the cloth's radiometric dating ...]
As I asked in my last response to PaulSacramento, can we first find common ground on something simple?

Is the cloth's radiometric dating evidence for a 14th century origin?

Re: Fascinating atheist veridical nde conversion

Multiple labs reaching the same conclusion from the same sample means just that. Huh? Corroborating dating results increases confidence in the 14th century origin of that particular cloth sample. Surely, you agree? If the labs all dated the different pieces of that cloth sample at 2000 years, would...

Re: Fascinating atheist veridical nde conversion

Science weighs evidence against theories. For example, ultra-careful, repeatedly radiocarbon-dated, double-blind, peer-reviewed analyses dating a cloth to the 14th century is strong evidence. You really need to do your research before you make statements. You can start with the shroud thread we hav...

Morny: You do realize Hank and the "Christian Research Institute", in spite of such an impressive sounding name, have less in common with science, than I have with Beyonce, right? And Morny, you do realize that one doesn't have to be a scientist to reference scientific data, analysis or r...

Re: Fascinating atheist veridical nde conversion

But as for OUR understanding of such a reported experience, a cessation of brain activity and heart function mean that any suggestion that a non-functioning brain created - much less later accessed and retained such an incredible experience, or that during this lifeless/brain-dead state that a pers...

Re: Fascinating atheist veridical nde conversion

Why is it so important to insist that a doctor's call that a person is clinically dead be determined to be really-really squashed possum on the highway-dead? Even if a really-really squashed possum on the highway-dead was healed made whole, many-many folks would not acknowledge God at all involved ...

Re: Fascinating atheist veridical nde conversion

NDE's and the Shroud have one thing in common: Because science can explain 1 or two parts of it, many people write them off. The issue is, of course, that science CAN NOT explain the WHOLE of the experience ( much like it can't explain ALL the characteristics of the shroud being a "fraud"...

Re: Is the Universe fundamentally Material, Mental or Both?

I referenced the YouTube as an example of some who believes such " shows evidence for a purely mind determined reality. " And it is a piece of evidence, methodological science, in favour of such a reality. Again, where specifically is the evidence on how "consciousness" is relev...

I added the option, but now all votes are lost! Sorry about that. I know that when I logged, in 7 votes were for "Yes", and 2 votes for either "No" or "It's possible". Doesn't that kind of equate to 'I don't believe so' or 'it's not possible'? I'm making a fine but imp...

Re: Is the Universe fundamentally Material, Mental or Both?

Quantum mechanics poses an interesting dilemma for those who hold to a strictly materialistic view of the world, in that we see the act of measuring (having an observer) influences the outcome (e.g., double-slit experiment ). This shows that rather than having a purely material world impressioned u...

I'd like to vote, but no option says, "I know of no controlled, double-blind, randomized, scientific study has shown any statistically significant evidence that anyone can sense when other people are looking at them. And people I know, who do claim the ability exists, invariably demonstrate a l...

Re: Why is there a conflict between religion and science?

Yeah, I meant supernatural. Is there anything in science explained by the supernatural? Does supernatural even exist in science? No. And no. Science accepts Methodological Naturalism, which generally excludes the supernatural. Or, if I understand you, what may be God, and what may not be God? [...]...
