Michael Heiser: Does "ELECT" have the same meaning as "SAVED?"

Here, Bible languages and cultures scholar Dr. Heiser explains a widely misunderstood meaning as to what "ELECT" actually means in Scripture - and it may not be what you think!

"Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." (2 Timothy 2 10)
Note: "The words "may" and "might" (as in the verse above) are both commonly used to talk about a POSSIBILITY - as opposed to a CERTAINTY. (Britannica Dictionary). In this verse, Paul is distinguishing a key difference between two groups of people - those ALREADY saved and the "elect" - a group which, in this context, while still having the possibility of being saved, it was nonetheless NOT yet a certainty. Why? Because they had not yet submitted themselves to Christ in a saving faith. In fact, Paul would not have had to "endure" ANYTHING to save "Elect" people, IF this term, as applied here, meant these people were already saved. Many have falsely concluded that the two terms, "Elect" and "Saved" are the same - see Heiser's video as he explains.
