Tom H. C. Anderson's study conclusions that the Bible is more violent than the Quran is not true, because the different study proves that the Quran is a more violent book than the Bible.

Many people don't realize that the commandments and accounts of what some term "genocide" in the OT MUSt be taken within the cultural context of that time ( 2000 years before the quran was written) AND that it is addressing a battle between good and evil, a supernatural one as a matter of fact.

When the Quran speaks of God ordering the death of infidels and showing them no mercy, it is addressing non-believers only, BUT in the OT the commandments against certain groups and divine action/warfare against them goes FAR beyond them simply not believing in YHWH but takes into account their ( those opposing YHWH) deviant heritage and their evil and barbaric acts against humanity and God.

In Genesis, God tells Abraham that the Canaanites have not reached the level of sin to be judged. God gave them 400 years to repent of their wicked ways and it was wicked, including child sacrifice. In fact everything about the laws in the Torah was a mirror of what was going on in the land around them.

So finally God sent the Israelites as their judgement. Remember also that a lot of the language used is hyperbole and exaggeration and what you find is that in later chapters the people Joshua stated was utterly destroyed was still in the land and being a snare for the Israelites. So yes the bible is violent, but not as violent as you think.
