ARCHAEOLOGICAL APOLOGETICS
======================================

The Bible is different than the “sacred” books of other religions in that the Bible corresponds tightly to the hard facts of history. Skeptics and unbelievers who want to dismiss the Bible as myth and fairytale have been proven wrong time and again by the stones that cry out through the science of archaeology.

Our guide will be Dr. John Bloom who holds two Ph.D.s and is known for his visually striking presentations of the digs, artifacts, and documents that show the Bible to be a reliable record of God's work in history.

A FREE event with John Mark Reynolds, J.P. Moreland, and Gary Hartenburg

We live in a day when it seems that our freedoms are being diluted and even swallowed up by powerful forces. In this provocative talk based on his new book, Dr. John Mark Reynolds, J. P. Moreland, and Gary Hartenburg will show that a vision for a vibrant future for us and our children can be found powerfully in an ancient synthesis: the great meeting of Athens (classical thinking) and Jerusalem (the Judeo-Christian worldview).

Mount Airy, Maryland
================================================

with J.P. Moreland, Craig Hazen, Greg Koukl, and John Bloom

"When you boil it down, isn't Christianity really about blind faith and mystery?" That's certainly what we hear the world saying through every vehicle of the media. But it turns out to be the furthest thing from the truth.

In this fast-paced and stimulating conference, some of the leaders in Christian thinking and philosophy will demonstrate that Christianity is really all about KNOWLEDGE! As the Apostle John said, we can "KNOW the truth and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32). The very best scholarship and thinking in history, philosophy, science, and cultural studies point to the truth of the Christian worldview. This seminar will help equip you to make your case for Christ in a hostile world.

THOUGHTFUL EVANGELISM IN OUR SKEPTICAL AGE
Apologetics on the Front Lines of Gospel Proclamation
======================================

Supercharge your evangelism!
with Strobel, Mittelberg, Hazen, and more!

Over the last thirty years there has been a measurable decline in the effectiveness of the basic evangelistic message. Unbelievers today are better prepared with what they think are real objections to the gospel. Hence the simple saving message is more easily deflected by those who desperately need it.

Lee Strobel, Mark Mittelberg, Erik Thoennes, and Craig Hazen will be teaching about a powerful synthesis between evangelism and apologetics that can make our gospel preaching, in St. Paul's words, "powerful through God" (2 Cor 10:4).

FREE KICK-OFF:
Presenting the Gospel and Answering Objections: The Unexpected Adventure with Lee Strobel
Thursday, October 22, 7 - 9:30 pm
First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, Main Auditorium

Did you see "Billy: The Early Years" yet? It's about Billy Graham's early years, of course, but the main theme is apologetical. It focuses on his conflicts regarding faith and science, depicted through his relationship with Charles Templeton. There is a showing of this at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa this Friday (the 9th), as a pre-release to the dvd.

http://www.billytheearlyyears.com/home.htm

It seems weird that the film didn't do better when it came out, but the makers say that maybe it's because of the movie Fireproof. Maybe it was their marketing . . . The dvd release date has not been announced yet.

Lol, I posted a little article at the Examiner about the Ray Comfort special edition of The Origin of Species, and it's actually getting hits with some "lively" discussion. If anyone here wants to join in, please do! (LOL, it's getting hits from all over - I'm not used to that! :lol: )

There is a big Intelligent Design vs Evolution debate coming up really soon, with Stephen Meyer/Richard Sterberg, Michael Shermer/Donald Prothero. It's in Beverly Hills on Nov. 30 (I'd like to go, but don't think I will). http://www.americanfreedomalliance.org/ ... /index.htm

CERTAINTY OF CHRIST IN AN AGE OF SKEPTICISM

Come hear former Biola Board member and award-winning author and philosopher Dallas Willard give a talk on the meaning and relevance of moral knowledge, how it has been lost in a scientistic culture and what are the possibilities for recovering a shared moral knowledge. This lecture is being hosted by the Psychiatry & Spirituality Forum at UC-Irvine and sponsored by the generous support of Fieldstead & Company.

THE VIRTUES OF CAPITALISM: A MORAL CASE FOR FREE MARKETS BOOK RELEASE
with Scott Rae, Ph.D. and Austin Hill, M.A.

Our country's founding fathers took very seriously the selfish, fallen nature of human beings described in Holy Scripture. In a stroke of brilliance, they set up a system of governance and economics that harnessed this sinful nature for the betterment of humankind through competition in branches of government and between economic interests. Today everything seems turned on its head. Have we lost the ideas that undergird the greatest system of government and economics the world has ever seen? Is there hope for the economic well being of our children? Is it moral to be a successful business person? Dr. Scott Rae and Austin Hill will address these news-making concerns, based on their latest book.

SIGNATURE IN THE CELL EVENT: STEPHEN MEYER FACES HIS CRITICS

Dr. Stephen Meyer has written a book that is shaking the evolutionary establishment like “Darwin's Black Box” and “Evolution: A Theory in Crisis” did in previous decades. Meyer has assembled a set of ideas based on the latest research on living cells that must be answered if traditional Darwinism is to survive. So we are assembling a powerful group of credentialed critics of Meyer's “Intelligent Design” position to let him have it with both barrels. No hiding in dark libraries or murky laboratories—if Meyer has the goods, he needs to answer his toughest critics face to face!

In addition, we will be screening some clips of the latest Illustra Media DVD titled “Darwin's Dilemma” and providing free copies to each family in attendance.

then join us for the conference and luncheon…

THE CAMBRIAN EXPLOSION: THE DATA BEHIND DARWIN'S DILEMMA
with Paul Nelson, Rick Sternberg, Doug Axe, Stephen Meyer, John Bloom, and more

The “Cambrian Explosion” is one of the most difficult and dynamic counterexamples to Darwinian evolution that the fossil record has ever revealed. We have assembled a group of experts in the field to talk in detail about this “hard evidence” that cannot be easily dismissed by proponents of Darwinism. Most of our speakers are those featured in the DVD “Darwin's Dilemma.” So come and hear the scientists themselves expound upon the data.

This is one I am attending.

Denton Bible Church is bringing a powerhouse group of speakers to the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton area for this year’s apologetics conference entitled, “On Guard: Defending Your Faith with Reason and Precision.” The name of this year’s conference is taken from the title of William Lane Craig’s newest book addressing the subject of apologetics in the local church. Denton Bible Church has invited some of the greatest defenders of the Christian faith to speak at this year’s conference on a wide variety of subjects including the historical reliability of the New Testament, the evidence for the resurrection, scientific challenges to the theory of Evolution, and the battle of Worldviews.

Speakers:
Dr. William Lane Craig (www.reasonablefaith.org)

Dr. J.P. Moreland (www.kingdomtriangle.com)

Sean McDowell (www.seanmcdowell.org)

Dr. Mike Licona (www.risenjesus.com)

Dr. Craig Hazen (www.biola.edu/academics/sas/apologetics/)

Dr. Paul Nelson (www.discovery.org/p/45)
Acts 17:24-25 (NIV)
"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. [25] And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else."

Neat, a lot of Biola speakers. Craig Hazen's book, Five Sacred Crossings, is good, I thought; he might be selling it there. I wish I could go to that one in Texas!
