The Bible is a book about God's mercy, unfathomable love, and His plans and desires for mankind. But it also prolifically speaks about a place called "Hell," which is a difficult and terrible thing to consider, for those desiring to reject God / Christ. Why does a God of such unfathomable love and mercy also punish so severely those who reject Him? Because God is also a God of PERFECT justice and righteousness, He also punishes. It's also why He came here as a man (in the form of Jesus) to teach us and die for us - to save us from our sins by providing a substitution of Himself (the perfect Sacrifice!) and way to AVOID punishment for our sins - as to be with the Lord in peace and joy FOREVER. The Bible says ALL of our sins can be forgiven - and to be with the Lord for eternity - it also says we MUST be forgiven of ALL of of them, no matter how small - simply by embracing and submitting ourselves to Jesus, through faith. As we look around at an world filled with terrible evil, we tend to not see our own sins as such a big deal. But a perfect, Holy and sinless God looks at sin in a far-different manner. And while we may not like or understand the Bible's teachings on Hell, we certainly better listen to something it relentlessly warns so much about. God wants to spend eternity with ALL who will FREELY choose to love Him BACK! And He does not want to force His love upon anyone. But the minute God gave mankind free will, He was also giving us the ability to choose sin over righteous behavior. But He lets US choose to obey Him or to sin. And no man or woman can ever be perfectly without sin - as only Jesus (fully God but also fully man) could do so.
