first humans with a god given soul maybe?

I tend to believe the others in the homo genus did not have souls

I see what you're saying, but I think you're confusing soul and spirit. According to the bible, certain creatures(nephesh) are endowed with souls. Souls give something a mind, will, and emotions. The spirit, however, is only given to humans. The spirit is what allows us to have the capacity to communicate with God.

If you were to say, "Adam and Eve were the first humans to have a spirit ", then one could possibly make an argument, even a biblical argument for that.
