13 reasons why was very controversial BUT I watched it with my girls and I was impressed at the insight they had about the series and their views.
They saw the selfishness of suicide, they understood the devastation of it and how, in this case, it was used to deal the "final word" from the grave.
They understood why God would view it as a mortal sin ( the ultimate act of selfishness which is the opposite of love).

13 reasons affected me greatly.

I understood hannah baker. You can look at her as simply being selfish or you can look deeper and see her desperate need to make others feel what she did. She was out of control and this was the only way she knew how to solve that.

For Christians, the hope is knowing that Jesus has already felt what we have.

A Movie that made me think me...

Not the modern 2008 movie but the 'Pilgrims Progress' old cartoon version made around 1980's... with its Slough of Dispond, Vanity Fair, and Moses hitting one with a big book of the Law... the fool... etc and etc...

Three that come to mind.

1. Fiddler on the Roof - I've loved this movie since I was a teenager. But as my daughters grew older it came to mean so much more, and gave me a lot to ponder as a father.

2. Matrix - One of my favorite Sci Fi movies of all time. An exciting and at the time innovative non-Christian movie that makes a unique use of all kinds of "christian" tropes.

3. The Passion of the Christ - A gut wrenching and painful movie to watch. But I do it every Easter, to remind me what Jesus did to save me from my sin.

For me, once was all I could stand to see this - so brutal, so terrible - but that once was very important, as it really brought home the enormity of what Jesus endured for us all! And so, for all the terrible things this reality brings people, we see that God Himself did not avoid it.

I love all the Star Treks and Highlander series.

Netflix Star Trek TNG, DS9, Voyager, .... makes me believe there could be a better future for humankind. Makes me feel , calm, at ease. Love the morals and characters ..

Love Highlander series , it's about immortals and good vs. Evil., with historical context. Free on YouTube .. I should probably check myself into a re-run rehab though ..
