Re: A Difference in Perspective (Religious vs Non-Religious)

I definitely just went through a phase where I saw both sides of perspective. I recently let atheism fall into an 'option' for me. Previously, I NEVER would have considered it, but it became a viable choice for me. I spent a couple weeks free from God and just looking at the world as though it was a...

Re: Origins of Christianity

That mithraism page is interesting! Strange to see how people would try to portray Christianity as a copycat with half truths and AFTER Christianity 'happened.' Are those rebuttals well documented? Any other sources of info about this? Does anyone have information about the assertion that the Caanan...

Origins of Christianity

Hey guys.. I'm wondering about where Christianity came from. Why are there stories in the Bible that resemble stories that predate it? Why were the first documents of religion polytheistic? Basically, I'm wondering what a response to this video is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlnnWbkMlbg I know y...

Re: Why isn't the Bible...better?

Now that I'm back on the site I'm doing better.. What I'm having trouble with is just simply not wanting to be Christian. I want to be atheist. I don't like the idea of 'being' forever, for one thing. I thought I was going through a major worldview overhaul and it was exciting.. but now I'm stuck in...

Re: Why isn't the Bible...better?

Is there a reason that God made the world, evolved it for billions of years, decided "THIS is a human.", started doing crazy stuff and made a book and now nothing crazy happens anymore. Nothing amazing goes on. I've spoken in tongues.. but is that brainwashing? A result of delusion? Meh I ...

Re: The God of the Old Testament

Atheists claim that the Bible condones slavery, stoning people, killing homosexuals. etc.? They spew it endlessly. Are they taking things out of context?

What is a Christian response to this?

Re: The God of the Old Testament

Thanks a lot Silvertusk! This morning I had kind of a burst of 'yearning' for God.. it's been awhile. I thought about Christian music I love.. when I first got into God stuff. Sometimes I wonder if it is a lifetime of having God that 'brainwashed' me, or that my urges are just from having God in my ...

The God of the Old Testament

Hey guys, I've recently switched my head around. I'm sitting at a more agnostic point of view. Where I used to get incredibly upset about arguments against Christianity, I now look at both sides of the issue while not freaking out about it all. It's really nice. I'm perfectly okay with either situat...

Opinions on religious experience and hallucination

Hi I was wondering what sort of information or studies you have come across about whether or not experiences of feeling close to God or having a spiritual experience are mere hallucinations. Any good sources/ideas? I thought I would start here because I have trouble wading through so much atheist ma...

Why isn't the Bible...better?

I'm often at battle with myself about the Bible.. atheists push generalizations that no scholars have found the Bible to be sound, or that no one is willing to piece together the gospel to earn $10,000.. there are so many 'contradictions' with 'explanations' but at times they work and at times they ...

Re: I need answers : (

Wooow.. I'm learning that my mood will have an extraordinary affect on how I see and interpret what people say. I went back and read much of what was on that forum that was upsetting me.. and it doesn't bug me at all. So much of it is just constantly spouting generalizations. When I'm upset, all tha...

I need answers : (

I'm losing it, after SO MUCH that God has given me spiritually. K, I'm not losing it, but there is SO MUCH BULLCRAP. I'm so confused. I go on a drumming forum and they have a religion section. There is a guy who is on the site EXCLUSIVELY to combat religious people. He is good at it. His name is Rya...

Stuff before marriage : /

Alright, straight to the point: My girlfriend and I struggle a bit with fooling around before marriage.. we are entirely committed to not having sex, but we are getting further and further in other forms.. petting and whatnot. I just think it's kind of weird how marriage makes it instantly okay. Lik...

Re: Messianic Prophecies

Forgive me, because I really don't know much information here...there's probably a lot of stuff I should know that I don't that would make this easier. So what is the issue for Jewish people? Do they think Christians translated things wrong? Do they think everything was supposed to happen right when...

Messianic Prophecies

Hi, I've been exploring some Jewish belief stuff and I was wondering what Christians consider against these ideas: --- 1) JESUS DID NOT FULFILL THE MESSIANIC PROPHECIES What is the Messiah supposed to accomplish? The Bible says that he will: A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28). B. Gather al...
