It merely restated in clearer terms what the doctrine should have stated all along. Hi Byblos, but if it was so clear why did Luther break off from the church? Who was misunderstood about the teaching? It wasn't clear and without a doubt Luther had the right idea. It's just that the catholic church...

Or it could be number 4 too... How about I wasn't in Catholic schools in 1999 when this statement was made? I went to Catholic schools in the 70's and early 80's. But then again, the position of the Catholic church changes so often that no one really knows what their position is half the time... Yo...

Gman, I would love to continue this discussion with you in a separate thread as, like I said before, this thread was to discuss Islam, not catholicism. Agreed... In fact I was going to say that too, but then I thought it would show that I was waffleing. I guess then that would make me the first waf...

Re: Archaeological Discovery dates Trinity to 3rd Century
Any comments? Yes. Although it may be evidence that some Christians believed Jesus was God (although the inscription actually says THEOS, which does not necessarily mean 'God', and is used in the Bible of men, as Christ himself pointed out), it does not prove that they believed in the trinity. Plea...

No, the sacrements are viewed as necessary to maintain[/b}salvation, not to earn it, as clearly stated above in 2027. You just need to read the fine print. First, how do you maintain a gift? Are you saying God gives a gift then takes it away if we don't uphold the sacrements? A conditional God? Huh...

Not only that, but the universe in which we exist is the size it is by necessity - a universe which expands without collapsing in a given time requires a certain volume, and a certain mass. Good Points! I don't understand this doesn't make sence. Are there predefined laws of physics which would for...

Re: Put aside your american pride
Byblos, I realize that how people over there see our actions will vary as widely as people are different and unique. I would defer to you on this because you are from the Middle East and know first hand. Do not some see the western world also as the Christian world and being an example of Christian...

It would be similar... I should know. I went to Catholic schools most of my life. Works + faith = salvation. Then how would you reconcile that with the late Pope John Paul II's statement in 1999 that salvation is only by faith, not works? http://www.citizensoldier.org/Popesalvationbyfaith.html It i...

Re: The first question
What I am saying is this is NOT about George Bush and the Iraq war! It bigger then that . It is a modern day example of something that has been going on forever. Its how other can see acts of Christians or people who claim to be Christian. The people who attacked us want this to be a religious war ...

Re: You misunderstand !
You all are misunderstanding what I am writing. I am not sure how you jump to the conclusion that I was anti-bush or anti-american . My wife is an american! I feel like I have been pre-judged. Yet, It could be my poor writing skills. If I pre-judged you in any way then I apologize. I'm just reactin...

Re: Bush example
I was using Bush as an example only. An example of someone who claims to be Christian, but through use of his powers has committed a horrible act. Now that act could be justified or not, yet having to kill thousands is still horrible. Now compare that to Hitler, who also was an authority figure. Hi...

Pakistan in the Middle East? I don't think so. Pakistan can be classified as part of the Greater Middle East, thanks to President Bush, as opposed to the the traditional Middle East. It can go either way. What does that mean? What did Bush do to reclassify Pakistan? And why is it not in the geograp...
