Re: Evolution/ID/Creationism in the Classroom
"There is always a metaphysical motive to ID but not always in evolution." That is untrue, sorry, there are many non-theists that hold to ID. Unless the intelligent designer is an alien life force I suppose. Otherwise ID still puts a meta physical intelligent designer on the table. ID is ...

Re: Evolution/ID/Creationism in the Classroom
2) Should Intelligent Design, creationism, or any other counterpart/rival to evolution be taught in schools as a science alongside evolution? That statement is not accurate, as it assumes that ID stands in opposition to evolution. It only stands in opposition if you import metaphysical motives to e...

Re: Molinism discussion
Are we going to talk about free will or Molinism here? Isn't reconciling God's sovereignty, and man's free will, what Molinism attempts to do? I'm new to this Molinism thing, but don't we have to talk about free will, if we talk about Molinism? No, not man's free will, man's responsibility. That is...

Re: Molinism discussion
So do most here agree that WLC is the foremost expert on Molinism today? It seems like it to me, at least. While Platinga has some such undertones, I don't think he relies on it as heavily as WLC does.

Re: Reformed Theology Discussion
Fair enough August. There is by necessity some qualifying differences between materialist determinism and divine determinism. The tie between Calvin's legal background and the citation from his Institutes which demonstrate him clearly at times drawing from Greek Philosophy indicates a tie. Can you ...

Re: Reformed Theology Discussion
Bart, we have been over this ground a little in the past, and I think that it is a misrepresentation of Calvinism to associate it with determinism in the same way and sense that the Greek philosophers meant it. It may be the same word, but it does not adequately or accurately describe reformed theol...

Re: The feeling of "God" self induced???
The most complete treatment on this topic I have seen from a non-atheist perspective is "The Spiritual Brain": http://www.amazon.com/Spiritual-Brain-Neuroscientists-Case-Existence/dp/0060858834 You will find that there are some reviews of course try and belittle the conclusions, but it is ...

Re: Eternal Security (OSAS)... Scripture ONLY
Salvation is not a single dimensional event, so while I believe that once someone is in a saving relationship with Christ, he or she is brought into an everlasting covenant with God, where our security is in God's covenant promise, and not anything else, we should consider this when we discuss it to...

Re: Reformed Theology Discussion
No they didn't. I was one of the few students whose name didn't start with "Vander". Most of the students there were also tied a great deal by Church associations as well as family ties. I was something of an outsidere in that regard, but it was a good experience over all. So is there a l...

Re: Reformed Theology Discussion
I appreciate the hard work you are putting into this, and I am going to refrain from commenting, as I am kinda burned out on that other thread. My personal background is a lot more Dutch Reformed, in fact almost exclusively so, and I don't find too much edifying in the work of the neo-Calvinists, a...

Re: The accidental universe: Science's crisis of faith
If the universe and all that is are mere accidents, why should we trust their conclusions, as this would necessarily mean that their thoughts, reasoning, premises and conclusions are accidents too, with no warrant for being necessarily true. One cannot establish the truth of conclusions reached by a...
