Re: State of emergency?
DBowling wrote: Because prior to Trump, Presidents have generally recognized and respected the Constitution's separation of powers. That's just plain false. And this statement just shows that your dislike for Trump, is clouding your thinking. It's getting to the point with your anti-Trump rants, th...

Re: State of emergency?
Ah, so Congress may have inadvertently opened up the door to allow Trump to do what he's doing? "may have" are the operative words here. Whether Congress did or did not cede their Constitutional power to the President in 1976 has not been tested in the courts yet. Because prior to Trump, ...

Re: State of emergency?
DBowling wrote: The Courts (and eventually the Supreme Court) will have to decide whether Presidents can use a 'state of emergency' to override Congress when Congress refuses to allocate funds for something the President wants. Hypothetically, if the courts decide that Presidents can use a state of...

Re: State of emergency?
All previous US presidencies stated a wall being needed, while they all failed to really deliver much it seems (given it's still an issue). So I don't see what the hoo-ha is about, except Trump campaigned on the wall, and Dems (and those who dislike him) are digging in their heels against a Trump-i...

Re: State of emergency?
Wikipedia notes that, concerning the powers of the president under the National Emergencies Act, "Congress can undo an emergency declaration with either a joint resolution and the President's signature, or with a veto-proof (two-thirds) majority vote. Which means if the courts let Trump get aw...

Re: State of emergency?
The way I see this moving forward is there are two possibilities here. (1) He gets the money what he wants, and can build the wall. (2) The checks and balances kick in, and he gets told, "Sorry Mr. President, it doesn't work that way." In either scenario, there's no abuse of the power of ...

Re: State of emergency?
From what I understand, there have been 59 national emergencies declared since 1976, when President Ford started the ball rolling. If this happened 58 times prior to President Trump doing it, how is that setting a precedent? Even if Trump didn't do it, who's to say a future president wouldn't do it...

Re: State of emergency?
I'm curious what people think about this issue. Personally, I think that Trump is making a gigantic mistake, and the GOP is screwing up bigly by not reigning him in. First off, illegal immigration is lower than it has been in years, and it's trending down . Moreover, if this was a true emergency th...

Re: Merely Believe in Christ? Why Don't Atheists Believe?
Kurieuo, this is an important question that has always interested me but I’m not certain that I understand you. It seems that you differ between head and heart as Nicki phrases it. Now I’m not sure about what you and others mean by talking about an “open heart”. Do you mean a feeling that isn’t int...

Re: The Kingdom of God and the death of Jesus
DB, I find it difficult to take much White says seriously, as he is a militant Calvinist who so effortlessly bends Scripture to fit its man-made logic and assertions. You should see the massive list of errors Geisler listed in his response to White's "The Potter's Freedom" book (which was...

I'd like to find time to read his book: https://www.amazon.com/Justification-Gods-Plan-Pauls-Vision/dp/0830851399/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 I have the book, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. You might find this debate between NT Wright and James White on Justification interesting...

Re: Neanderthals - Were they our ancestors?
???!!! To understand what Walton is proposing, ask yourself these questions... Psalm 103:14-16 For he knows how we were made; he remembers that we are dust. 15 As for mortals, their days are like grass; they flourish like a flower of the field; 16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and it...
