Provision/poverty

Hello all - I'm feeling pretty anxious at the moment as we don't have much income. My husband was made redundant a couple of months ago and got another job, but it's on a casual basis for now and he's only getting about three days' work this week and next week. I'm self-employed and have been making...

Re: Faith and works

It's been hard to keep up with this thread and have time to post something as well! It seems to have turned more to the question of eternal security. I had my eyes opened a bit a few pages back - not sure who posted it but it was about 'faith without works is dead'. The poster said someone's faith w...

Re: Faith and works

It's a bit of a paradox here - no doubt salvation is by faith alone but I think the key is in Phil 2:13, 'Grace gives you the desire and ability to do God's will' (sorry, I'm just copying from the quote above) - after all James says faith without works is dead and another scripture says 'This is lov...

Re: If Jesus was God, why wasn't He more obvious?

Yep, as the quote says, God is unfair in that he chooses to forgive those who accept his mercy, instead of leaving us to the fair consequence of our disobedience to him. My feeling about the miracles is firstly that many, many people did believe Jesus was God, hence Christianity's status as still on...

Re: What was God's plan

I've never before heard the idea that God doesn't (or didn't) know the future. What about Revelation and other prophecy in the Bible? In a sense this is true. God does not have to know or be aware of the future, because He has no desire or need to. This does not mean He is unprepared or oblivious t...

Re: OSAS

I always assumed that we could change our minds - in the same way we're free to convert from unbelief or another religion to Christianity, we could change from a Christian to a non-Christian. Not that it would be a wise idea, but no longer having belief in Christian doctrines, we wouldn't believe w...

Re: Salvation

Yes, God is love - that's what the Bible says about how integral a part of his nature love is. He doesn't need us but it was in his nature to create us, love us and save us - we have infinite worth to him. We are imperfect and unworthy of heaven but as he loves us perfectly he wants to save us.

Re: Who made the rule that death is the punishment for sin?

Not sure if you're checking this again, outlaw, but thanks for discussing this with us for so long. I think there's been some unnecessary unpleasantness on both sides though. I've been reading a book by Francis S. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, who came to believe in God and become a Chr...

Re: Who made the rule that death is the punishment for sin?

I think some people have been a little harsh on here. As to God's existence, have you read some of the articles on the main website? Some pretty interesting stuff - I've just been reading one on the extreme unlikeliness of the existence of the universe, due to all the forces, reactions and so on whi...
