Re: Hell Question

It seems to me that "hell" is where the unrepentive sinners that openly choose to not be part of God's kingdom will go. Especially within the context of revelations where we see that after 1000 years of peace and Christs' reign, Satan will be let loose again and there will be those that, even after ...

Re: "I preached against homosexuality, but I was wrong"

First off, lets us remember that there is only ONE sin that is "unforgivable" and that is sinning against the holy spirit. Homosexuality is NOT such a sin. Though one can possibly argue that to profess to have the HS AND being a homosexual is just a blasphemy, that requires even MORE judgment than w...

Re: Authors of the New Testament

I don;t think that Bart is trying to prove the bible to be a lie, just trying to show that it isn't inerrant, which is irrelevant to those that never viewed it as such and take the bible for what it is and what it isn't. I think Bart is trying to show that putting all your confidence and faith in th...

Re: Possible Major Christian discovery.

Speaking of "cults", IF this relic is dated to the 1st century and with its pictures of crosses ( in the shape of a T), I wonder how the JW's that say that Christ was impaled (nailed) on a stake (vertical post) and not a cross and that the cross was a 4th century pagan image adopted by the apostate ...

Re: Authors of the New Testament

Bart has always struck me as someone that, having come from an evangelical fundamentalist view of an inerrant bible, having discovered the the bible is not inerrant in the way HE wanted it to be, is now on a mission to make sure everyone is not duped as he was duped. Many of his issues are old ones,...

Re: "I preached against homosexuality, but I was wrong"

Homosexuality does NOT effect anyone in a negative or harmful way, what to gay people do as consenting adults is their business- providing no one gets hurt or no crimes are commited of course. The reality is that this is wrong in multiple ways. I am troubled that a believer would actually say this,...

Re: Was Adam the first human?

The issue of taking ALL of Genesis as literal AND concrete has been discused and debated for ages, even the likes of Origen, Augustine and Aquinas expressed their views on it. Here NT Wright express some views: http://biologos.org/resources/nt-wright-and-pete-enns-what-do-you-mean-by-literal/ http:/...

Re: Was Adam the first human?

Adam means "Man" so it could quite possibly be a parable/story of "Man's fall from grace" in which ONE person is symbolic of the whole race. The again perhaps Adam was indeed the firs Man to find God and of course, the first one to "shun" God, LOL ! When Cain was sent out he found others so it seems...

Re: Authors of the New Testament

There are a few books out there that give a far more balanced view than Bart's. The ones by Metzger ( as Canukster mentioned) are great. Bloomberg has a few also. There is nothing wrong in reading a book that states a particular viewpoint, even if controversial, as long as we are balanced and fair a...

Re: "I preached against homosexuality, but I was wrong"

I don;'t think it is a "to each his own" type of thing. I don't agree with homosexuality, I don't think it is natural and find it a tad repulsive to be honest, but being a man I am certainly "OK" with to attractive lesbians or bi-sexual females going at it :D I am only human of course, LOL ! On a se...

Re: Abused, Raped, Tortured, Killed - what good can be taken

For all who answered my questions, thanks alot. While I can't imagine myself can handle those kind of situations, but I am grateful I am never been in those situations (hopefully will never be). Even sometimes it is very hard to say that God does have plan, I give my salute to anybody that can do t...

Re: "I preached against homosexuality, but I was wrong"

The most compelling argument against the genetic link for homosexuality is that of identical twins where one is a heterosexual and the other homosexual. Genetics cannot explain this. Not sure how scientific that is...but lets assume homosexuality is NOT genetic but a choice, how does one explain ch...

Re: "I preached against homosexuality, but I was wrong"

When you say "homosexual since birth," this brings up a lot of issues. For one, there is no genetic evidence to indicate one is homosexual from birth. Except for extreme rare instances, all people are born obviously male or female. It is a scientific fact that homosexual activity is wholly unnatura...
