What type of church should I be part of?

If I want to join a church, how do I know its right for me and I'm right for it? I used to have one simple condition - they acknowledge that Jesus is Lord. Lately, there is a trend away from associating with a local Christian community. So, I feel the incompatibility issues are more complicated.

Bassman, the Bible identifies the condition you have described. It calls it as being 'slaves to sin'. What happens after a person becomes a Christian is that he is freeded from this slavery. He is free not to act upon his desires and make the choices (some of which you have identified as being detri...

One way to see Sunday is the celebration of Jesus' resurrection. Its the celebration of the start of God's new creation. Only this time He's creating a new man first and a new Heaven and Earth last.

What is meant by 'asking God into your life'? Maybe you can ask people who use these words what they mean? By God's grace through faith we are imputed and imparted with Christ's righteousness. Imputed means that when God sees us, He sees us wearing the righteousness of Christ - that leads to Justifi...

Not talking about the issue of whether God is male or female. However, since its come up, this is my take - God provides us with security (associated with males in society) and God provides us with nurture (associated with females in society). I was just making an observation. There have been a few ...

At work recently we've been told how to recognise and deal with people based on their personality preferences, using the MBTI system. One aspect of this was the way people were convinced in arguments. At one end we had the people who associated with logical systematic arguments (eg scientists) and a...

You can ask God (or the Holy Spirit to be more precise) into your life to be born again. The real turnaround also involves your freewill in the process of repentance with the help of the HS. Then its you who lives in Christ (rather than the other way around).

I see your point K. What I think would be nice is to see a move towards organising local churches as recommended in the Bible. Not a move towards divorcing oneself from the concept of being involved in local chuches. That might sound like wishful thinking, but I still suscribe in part to the great B...

I am confident the Holy Spirit will always lead those who are His with or without attending church. Church is just not about my own Christian growth, but also me contributing to the growth of other believers. Its overlooking others' shorthcomings with agape love and strive for unity which Jesus lon...

If you are to accept apostolic practice, then immersion baptism following faith in Christ is the norm, without exception. As regards to whether it is necessary for salvation; I would ask - Would you consider partaking in the Lord's Supper as necessary to salvation? Would you refuse to take part if y...

I must say, I do not join merely to attack, and I believe that to make up one's mind in either direction is a mistake. I leave myself open to all possibilities and encourage others to do the same. DO YOU?! I have found most Christians excited by the opportunity to explore their Theology. Contemplat...

One thing is sure - God is just and whatever happens - It will be fair. I'm sorry, but this statement ranks right up there with “God works in mysterious ways”. If this forum is indeed a place for thinking people to ask questions, then answers like this hold no meaning to anyone who does not alread...

Tongues serve two purposes: 1) They are a sign to unbelievers who speak a language you do not speak, when you speak spontaneously in that language. I knew a person who spoke Christian messages in Russian to Russians once without having learned the language. 2) They enhance our worship when we run ou...

Holy Spirit Baptism and Tongues

Have Charismatic gifts ceased? I have personally witnessed healings, prophecies, words of knowledge etc. I've also seen the 'Toronto Blessing' phenomenon in churches, although that seems to have a demonic element to it. OK, here's the question - Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is available to those ...
