Re: The Faith of Atheists and Agnostics
To be fair, Abel, I generally don't think of Pascal's Wager as a rather persuasive argument either. Granted, I grew up with Christianity so I accepted Christ at a young age, though the way I look at Pascal's Wager is not that it's a sound argument for most circumstances so much as an apologetics too...

Re: Should people with stupid beliefs be mocked and ridiculed?
Ed, please forgive B.W. His bark is worse than his bite. I do think that he's jumping the gun by a large margin, though his heart's in the right place. Overall, yes, I do agree that some of my fellow Christians are prone to overreacting and tend to jump to conclusions a bit too soon. That said, howe...

Re: In defense of objective morals
FlawedIntellect You realize that this means that something has to be true is true in and of itself , even if people do not know it to be true , right? It would have to be true in and of itself before people can find it, let alone form a consensus! Yes and no; it does have to be true, but it doesn’t...

Re: In defense of objective morals
Jlay This is the same question you seem stuck on. I've already given reason why consensus can't be found. The burden is on you. you've made a claim as to why consensus is required. Claims require supportive arguments. You haven't provided one. Ken How many times must I answer only to say I did not?...

Kenny: My reasons for believing he doesn't exist has nothing to do with the Universe, Good, because I think you know something metaphysical and miraculous HAS to be behind it! I'm sure they used to think that about lightning and thunder as well. And your point is what, exactly? Something so incredi...

Re: What Google and Facebook are hiding.
It's not really a secret these days that Google or Facebook use algorithms to sort information that you get. Thing is, though, algorithms are mathematical, and cannot perfectly account for what a person is interested in looking at.
This has been out in the open for quite some time now.

Planned Parenthood uses partial birth abortions to sell baby parts. jjxwVuozMnU There's no limit to the depravity of human beings, except for lifespan. You should know this by now, Rick! Given the fallen nature of humanity, depravity is not really supposed to be a surprise. People warp their consci...

Re: Popularity of Non-Christians Wearing Crosses
This sort of thing happens when a bunch of people with different personalities all have a conversation together. Misunderstandings are bound to happen. Sometimes I still have a hard time telling when FL is joking and when he isn't. And Rick is almost always being silly, to the point where some of hi...

Uh, Toyota and Honda are Japanese, not Thai. Other Japanese car companies at the top of my head are Subaru, Nissan, and I think Mitsubishi, though Mitsubishi also did general electronics, like televisions. Yamaha does electronics [such as music keyboards], and sports vehicles (such as jet skis). As ...

Re: Question on faith
To Audie: You often say that science deals with probabilities rather than truth. While the statement is somewhat accurate in practice, it ignores the spirit and purpose of science. Science is an endeavor to uncover the truth to the best of humanity's ability to observe and analyze. As such, science ...

Re: God and Science
I would like to add that the Intelligent Design view does NOT deny God's ability to create through evolutionary process to enact his will. Rather, it denies that evolution is the method God chose to use. The question is on the history of God's method of creating, not on his ability. It doesn't follo...

Any resources for those unfamiliar with philosophy?
Are there any free online resources that one can recommend for those that are curious about learning philosophy? Particularly aimed at beginners? I think that such resources might be useful to myself and to others. Plus, maybe if any resources get linked here, maybe this topic could get added to the...

Wow, Melanie, that's quite a story! I'm sure many have asked you whether there were any bongs involved in enhancing that experience :D - but I won't. It's fascinating because your description reveals 1) the "craft" (or whatever it truly was) was experienced by three people in mostly good ...
