Re: Genetics and Homosexuality: Are People Born Gay?

I think the big problem here is the massive gap between these two worldviews. The first issue is taking into consideration what exactly is sin. To people with more secular or liberal beliefs, a sin is anything that harms or disturbs the progress of society in a potentially negative way, this includi...

Re: death of america

Every day, I have to answer questions on social ethics with responses like, "In a secular nation, we have to respect everyone's rights..." or, "The Constitution was wrong in regulating that based on a secular code...". Along a "secular" trend, the concept of morality is...

The Price to Pay

Here's a concept that we should cover. Christ died for our sins, correct? He paid the price of our sin with his own blood, and that is the reason it is just for us to accept God's gift and allow ourselves to become "imperishable". Now, here is a question: Why would people need to be punish...

Re: Is fiction evil?

Many of the problems in fiction actually rise from the cruel inability of language to express a concept. It is a problem with a word, not with, necessarily, a piece of literature itself. Take Harry Potter. The word "magic", to, for example, a hardened fundamentalist might mean "the pr...

Re: Question about flat earth

You have to remember the the Bible isn't all a textbook describing how things are. Job here was describing the glory of God: "He is the one who sits on the earth’s horizon; its inhabitants are like grasshoppers before him. He is the one who stretches out the sky like a thin curtain, and spreads...

Re: The wind made the waters recede?

I can't remember from whom, but someone on this forum introduced me to the idea of the flood being partially attributed to the gap at the Straight of Hormuz breaking. This being the case, water would rush out and cover land for miles and miles above the former land level, and a strong wind, I suppos...

Refer to the end of the last book of The Chronicles of Narnia. The dwarves demonstrate this idea very well. :ewink:

Re: Flat Earth Theory

I think that a distinction must be made between figurative language and descriptive language in the bible. Job 9:6 is followed by Job 26:7-9 . The first says that the earth is suspended on pillars, the second says on nothing, and it is written by the same author in the same book. Why? Perhaps becaus...

Re: The Epicurean paradox

Eternity, can you comit evil in this place? Does the thought even occur into your mind? I doubt it, since it is paradise. So if either free will is lost in heaven or you're to blissful to comit it, your first paragraph in my opinion is disproven due to the fact that heaven would be evil-free since ...

Re: The Epicurean paradox

This is, unfortunately, a very 2-dimensional point of-view. "If God doesn't stop evil, then he is either wicked, or not God." Obviously, God looks at the whole picture. The final world after the suffering and evil has abated will be far better than if would be if there had been none at all...

Re: marriage hall

It's too bad that our government completely overlooked that fact that marriage is still by majority a religious institution, not a legal contract... shame. But, after all, I suppose it is just a word, and nothing more until you assign meaning to it.... there are many different definitions throughout...

I'm going for Cain. He seems like he has his ideas set and clear, and doesn't try to beat around the bush when he's questioned.
