Re: In defense of objective morals

a. Slavery is wrong b. I think of slavery as wrong In the first, moral language (the word "wrong") is attributed to the actual act of slavery. In the second, moral language is predicated to my opinion. What I am arguing is that, if objective moral values do not exist, then sentences of th...

Re: In defense of objective morals

I don't think you are hearing me. Preference for ice cream is a moral issue, whether the ice cream is chocolate or the slaves are brown the suffering is still a very real issue. You still don't seem to able to take this on board. Your OP shows a complete disregard for suffering which I can understan...

Re: In defense of objective morals

Your op gives the impression that ice cream is not a moral issue and slavery is, correct me if I am wrong. I'm a little worried about how you relate to non-human life. The objective/subjective divide is great but problems and suffering arise when we take these things too seriously. I worry you take ...

Re: In defense of objective morals

It's *sweary word* horrible

The 'right mind' bit gets to the heart of it. He can't be in his right mind if he is wrong!

Re: In defense of objective morals

a. Slavery is wrong b. I think of slavery as wrong Prefixing your thoughs with "I think" doesn't change much. If you think it does you are being silly. Unicorns are pretty. The ice cream comparrison makes a mockery of the suffering and slavery of animals in the dairy industry and the beli...

Re: Studies that say NDEs are not real.

Think of the worst child sadist murdering molester actually gets away with the deed. in fact, since there is only nothingness in the universe that is constant, then the worst child sadist murdering molester cannot be guilty of anything wrong can she/he? In fact, you going to college is a complete w...

Re: If not theism then what?

While for the Theist the problem if suffering is a valid one to debate and even anguish about since the Theist believes in a God, for the atheist that believes the universe is, to quote Mr Dawkins: "no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference", there ...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency

I found it beneficial too. Perhaps we can chat again one day once I've got a better understanding of philosophy in general. You've given me a least a lot of pointers as to areas I need to look into. Maybe in the future I'll be able to more clearly disentangle the sufferring & silliness that Aris...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency

Jac, Thought if I took a little time off and reread you post I would see it in a more charitable light, unfortunately this is not the case. You linked to a definition of silly? really? Aristotle's views on the rational man, beasts of burden, slavery, barbarians and his apporach to life itself have i...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency

I'm not arguing what the advances will be. Only that there would be advances. I know, stop it. It's dreaming and conjecture, it's not an argument. The premise is simple: errors about reality hamper our ability to understand and interact with reality. I've given you multiple examples of how errors i...

Re: Jehovah witnesses

Jehova Witnsesses seem to be everywhere I go recently. Not sure if I just ignored them before, but i don't think so.....I should really start talking to them instead of just refusing or accepting their leaflets.

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency

The hoverboard is an attempt to ground your repeated claims, and they are still coming, of physics being much further down the road if people took Aristotle more seriously. You see things as they are and imagine how much better they would be if people done things the way you would like to see them d...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency

Again it's back to had the world done stuff they way you think is right and proper things would be much better. Yeah we're still dealing with a lot of problems inherited from Aristotle & Descartes but both men also gave us cool stuff to play with. Let's all imagine how awesome our hoverboards wo...
