Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency
Wow, lots of stuff to cover. In the film, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne's character actually shot the criminal, although he allowed Stewart's character take credit for it. But when Stewart's character tries to set the record straight with a reporter, the resp...

Re: Resurrection of jesus christ
How about picking someone who was more akin to Jesus? Napoleon, Alexander the Great, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln etc were all hugely famous across the world in their lifetimes, commanded armies, won wars, held power over hundreds of thousands of people......politcal & military giants tha...

Re: Resurrection of jesus christ
Proinsias, Contrary to your assertion that Christ was going to establish his kingdom on earth, but never got around to it, are the words of Jesus in John 18:36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would...

I presume then you have the same credibility issues with any other historical figure such as Alexander the Great. If not, why not. Alexander the Great was the student of Aristotle, of royal blood and carved out one of the greatest empires the world has ever seen. He acheived the sort of stuff Jesus...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency
I'm aware of the 'myth'. I read James Hannam's book debunking it last year. I'll stick with my tall defensible claims in the mean time, you can hold to your dreams of how awesome physics would have become if the world gave a different reponse to the one it actually did to Descartes.

Re: sweatshops
I'm often confused by this....FL seems to have a dencent outlook on the matter...make ethical purchases where possible...but this is not an easy decision. Is it better to buy a cheap piece of harware from a sweatshop in China and donate the saving to a charity that helps prevent blindness in third w...

Re: Introduction to Biblical Nonsense Part 1: Noah's Ark
I read the first few chapters of a book on the discovery of the flood account in cuniform of Atrahasis whilst in the library a few days ago, from what I gather the book is the account of an attempt to rebuild the ark described in the cuniform, a good deal smaller than Noah's Ark. Alongside Gilgamesh...

Re: iPhone 6 problem
Not sure how friendly it is from a developer/admin point of view but Tapatalk has a decent interface for forum browsing/posting on mobile devices. That aside could it be Safari, or whatever the stock iOS browser is these days, as opposed to iOS? Do the issues persist when using another browser on th...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency
Is it not you who is abandoning cause and effect by inferring an unmoved mover? Causality boils down to change or impermenance...and time, of which there are many interpretations. Artistotle, Hume & Shankara provide rather conflicting ideas, all of which are quite nice to the point that it is a...

Re: Cosmological Argument from Contingency
I cannot go along with #3, I don't think we know enough about the Universe to exclude this option. As far as #5; as I said previously, I can't make the leap that whatever is responsible for the Universe is also kind, perfect, all knowing, and all the other adjectives people attach to God. Ken What ...

Re: Progressive creation vs Theistic evolution
I imagine it would be pretty easy for Dawkins to point out your worldviews are idiotic, he's made a career out of it. I did swither over 'has not' and 'can not' when typing but felt the latter was more appropriate. On one level it's as simple as me not finding a proof that is convincing but I'm not ...

Makes me think of "If Jesus Came to Your House"
If Jesus came to my house....he'd be promptly put in his place primary teacher style

Re: Progressive creation vs Theistic evolution
Thanks Jac, I appreciate the reply, the thoughts and the prayer. but...... I flat out disagree with you that God's existence can be proven as a matter of reason. I may be wrong or not educated in such matters but the arguments put forward by Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, Anslem and others are not i...
