Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

No, they don't highlight flaws in Aquinas' arguments because they're not Aquinas' arguments . I encourage you to read over Contra Gentiles Book 2 Chapter 38 . It seems, if you are correct on what Aquinas is arguing, then Aquinas refuted his first, second, third, et al "Way" arguments long ...

Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

If I saw relevance to the questions, then I'd respond. What I believe and would argue/support, is different from what Aqunas has reasoned, and I'd prefer not to mix the two together as I'd expect this would create further distortion. You say you've lectured many, many years. That's nice. Even lectur...

Re: Morality

Okay; let me clarify. A person who believes morality is Objective (not subjective) suggested subjective morality lead to the atrocities of Pot, Mao, and Stalin. I’m just trying to understand the logic behind this, since those things DID happen; perhaps you could point something out to me that I am ...

Re: Aquinas five ways

Nils, Having read a little more about Aquinas' underlying metaphysics (in Feser's beginners guide book), it is quite different to that assumed in Materialism or contemporary thinking. I do not think understanding Aquinas is necessarily hard, however it might be for many who read his works through a ...

Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

Don, I think it is becoming apparent to everyone that you are not dealing with Aquinas' arguments at all. If we look at Aquinas' secound way , we see your " cause, efficient cause, first cause, Kalam Cosmological argument, etc. " really doesn't apply at all, nor your following responses wh...

Re: Aquinas five ways

Acb, Please stop posting in these threads. I'm not going to tell you again. Huh? Why can't he post. If he's wrong then tell him why but surely you don't just tell members to shut up and not post. What kind of boards are you running here? We are just getting rid of Mugabe we don't want another one.....

Re: Aquinas five ways

Nils, While I'm no Aquinas expert, I am familiar with the mistake many make with understanding his arguments. In your post above, you make the same error in understanding as many others. Particularly your premise #6 makes obvious the misunderstanding you have of Aquinas' argument. I'd recommend to y...

Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

K, what I think needs some simple bullet points, concern the professor's points about infinite regression and that all things contingent require a cause, and not the strawman assertions many pointlessly set out to refute. Feel free to do so then. I personally don't like leading a horse to water if ...

Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

I just ordered Feser's Five Proofs. :rockcool: Just don't become Catholic. :P I just now realized Feser is catholic. :pound: His book is Five Proofs For The Existence of God, not a Mary worshiping manual, right? I will be ordering it and like I've explained before I'm good at picking out ...

Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

K, I really enjoyed that. There is a lot to digest in it - and so it would be great to sum up the professor's key ideas in simple-sentence paragraphs. Some key points in the video : ⋅ Feser was an Atheist philosophy of religion lecturer. ⋅ Feser thought he knew all about Aquinas...

Re: Skepticism and the Principle of Sufficient Reason

On the back of Byblos' comments re: many misunderstanding Aquinas... if you are truly open, honest and so on TrulyEnlightened, then I encourage you to watch the following discussion between Feser and Shapiro.
