Re: Comet: First Agriculture and Neolithic Civilizations

Science is revealing that comets and meteorites hit Earth more often than previously thought . They don't need to be that big to cause a lot a damage, especially to our modern cities today. Consider the damage that would be caused by one landing in the Tasman Sea, say 100km away from south-east coas...

Re: "If you were born elsewhere, you wouldn't be a Christian..."

Yeah, I agree. I see the argument as largely a kind of red herring. Basically, "so what?" I think it's pretty obvious that people are influenced to believe in what the people surrounding them believe. And equally obvious that people by and large are going to stick with their original beli...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

Kurieuo, how do you find the time for such awesome posts? I find it hard to even keep up with discussions - not that I'd have much to say anyway  Thanks, I try my best, but am naturally drawn to such topics any how as a matter of interest. I've also started seeing some merit, like my posts ar...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

I asked that you articulate why such is necessarily a contradiction in logical form in syllogistic form (i.e., If A then B, A therefore B), but you didn't. It isn't obvious to me that there is a contradiction, I don't see any. For, if it is God's will not to lie, then He is most certain free to exp...

Re: Belief in the Trinity

Consider who walked in the garden alongside Adam and Eve (Gen 3:8). Who wrestled with Jacob? (Gen 32:24-25;28-30). Who did Moses see in the bush? (Exodus 3:2;4-6) Jesus reveals Himself incognito throughout the Mosaic scriptures on many occasions. A mysterious man, angel of the Lord, who won't reveal...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

As an aside, I think what makes rational discussions between rational Christians and Atheists difficult, is perhaps the actual amount of reading, thinking and reasoning such a Christian has done on God. So say an Atheist is starting from ground zero (0) in their thinking about God. A rational Christ...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

I mean this: Not if God's will perfectly aligns with His own nature, the two are ultimately one and same. So God is free to express Himself, it's just that His expression aligns 1:1 with who He is. There is a contradiction in 'free to express Himself' and 'cannot lie'. Can God create us (lying) hum...

Re: Finkelstein's New Ark Search

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4223292/Ten-Commandments-search-reopened-Jerusalem.html Wonder where it is? What if it were actually found? Any ramifications? Significance? If found, then it should be safe to touch now I'd think. ;) Dating it would hold much significance, probably re...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

It's not about caring for another one's opinion or choices, it's about understanding. That's what this forum is about(?). Though this forum is also meant for theists, and not for an atheist. So here I'm way 'underreasoned', and maybe on the wrong forum, though it's mostly good to broaden one's pers...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

I'm not sure how such makes God is "bound" since God is freely expressing Himself. Ultimately, what you are saying unless God is capricious rather than consistent then....? I'm not sure. But, I suppose, welcome to the world of reasoning about God. You'd be perhaps surprised, that some idea...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

Isn't that denying God having his own free will? Something he gave us humans, but is incapable of himself? Not if God's will perfectly aligns with His own nature, the two are ultimately one and same. So God is free to express Himself, it's just that His expression aligns 1:1 with who He is. I think...

Re: Is being an atheist irrational?

Let me write it this way: IF there is someone that can make a square circle, it's God! ;) (I tried to make the ;) larger, but that doesn't work. :esad: ) I noticed the "if", but nonetheless it is routinely used as some sort of argument against the existence of any "all-powerful"...

Re: Belief in the Trinity

Have any of you heard that we must believe the Father is the one true God, the Son is the one true God and the Holy Spirit is the one true God to be saved?? Is there any domination of Christianity that teaches this? Thanks. What does one even mean by such phrasing? The Shema has it best in Deut 6:4...
