Re: The accuracy of the Biblical creation account?

The Bible is meant to provide us with the moral lessons required to live our lives, not to act as a science textbook. God gave us human reason to figure out scientific issues. It's God's morality that man needs. That being said, the Bible was nevertheless written by mortal men who -- even if God rev...

Re: Why are people so blind?

It's important to remember that, in the time of the Bible, there was no such thing as heterosexuality or homosexuality as we understand those terms today. People just didn't define themselves in that way. I don't think the Bible says that homosexuality is wrong. There are certainly some homosexual a...

Re: Trump vs "The Media"

One of the more interesting Wikileaks showed that the Hillary campaign coordinated with many different mainstream journalists: http://www.mostdamagingwikileaks.com/media-collusion

Even if you absolutely hate Trump, it should still be somewhat concerning that this level of coordination went on.

Re: Are there theists who don't accept creation?

I'm of the opinion that the "days" mentioned in Genesis are not 24 hour days. The word used for "Day" can mean a period of time, and it's also nonsensical that there would be a "Day" before there was light, since the ancient people reckoned their days by the moving of ...

Re: Are there theists who don't accept creation?

I think it's a totally defensible position to say that evolution was a medium by which creation was played out. Genesis gives us a creation narrative that understandably doesn't delve too far into the mechanism by which God created the world. I think there are good reasons for that: how do you expla...

Re: Electrons, Protons , Neutrons= 666 myth

I've heard one theory that this relates to the Jewish teachings behind the number six. The number six was thought to be the number associated with mankind, because man was created on the sixth day. In the Torah, repeating something three times was considered to be exalting it, which is why you somet...

Re: What happens to Christians who join Masons?

Sorry for the late response. Life had me busy! @abelcainsbrother - We don't use contraptions in our degrees, so I'm not sure what you found. We definitely don't meet in low attics like that, so I'm guessing that what you found is completely unrelated to Masonry. Can you describe it a little more? I ...

Re: What happens to Christians who join Masons?

I still see Masonry take a stance when it says things like: "...In different languages, the Creator is known by different names. He may be called God, Allah, Jehovah, YHWH, I Am That I Am and others." - http://www.masonic-lodge-of-education.com/become-a-free-mason.html. Is this an erroneo...

Re: What happens to Christians who join Masons?

So, Masonry makes a comment on them by being neutral (if anything its ignorance). I have to disagree there. The Masonic stance is very clear... Masonry leaves it up to you to decide. So it's far from calling all religions equally valid. And plus -- how many facets of your life take a stand on this?...

Re: Examining the Newest Historical Research on Islam and the Earliest Quranic Manuscripts

But don't muslims visit Mahammad's grave sight and his body is still in it? His body is in a structure called the Green Dome in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Muslims sometimes visit it, but it's not part of the pilgrimage. The Islamic view of Jesus is very strange (they claim that Jesus was merely a prophe...

Re: What happens to Christians who join Masons?

In the Lodge Room (e.g. during a meeting), anything that could be divisive is not discussed. That includes things like politics as well as sectarian discussion, including attempts to convert people to your religion. Outside of the meeting (which usually takes place for a few hours twice a month), yo...

Re: Examining the Newest Historical Research on Islam and the Earliest Quranic Manuscripts

Wait, how is this "Aberrant Christianity"? This topic belongs to "God and science" (http://discussions.godandscience.org/viewforum.php?f=6), I reckon. Since Islam claims to be the rightful successor of Christianity/Christ, you could argue that it's a form of aberrant Christianit...

Re: The Implications If Parts of the Bible Texts are UnTrue

There's also the opinion of such individuals as Saint Augustine that there are many parts of the Bible that are allegorical. The Bible is first and foremost a moral text regarding God's law. It's not necessarily going to be a historical record in all places.
