Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

The word of God does not provide this instruction to angels. Does not God instruct His Angels ?? The "this instruction" I was referring to above was the following from Psalm 82. "Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and needy...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

Don't get me wrong, I can see the reasoning behind this view IF the people from the second temple saw Psalm 82 as being about human rulers and judges BUT the problem with that is that the writings we have from that time period don't tell us that. For me the Gospel of John is extremely relevant beca...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

Psalms 82, is almost universally understood as talking about human kings and or rulers. Here is the NASB translation of Psalm 82 1 God takes His stand in His own congregation; He judges in the midst of the rulers. 2 How long will you judge unjustly And show partiality to the wicked? Selah. 3 Vindic...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

Thanks for your views DB :) No Problem... I'm learning a lot here! :) How to you address that Israel did NOT exist at the time of the division of nations so how could they be allotted to the "sons of Israel" ? I don't believe the text says that they were allotted to the sons of Israel. NA...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

On a side note Db, what are your views on the "other gods" in the bible? I guess my starting point is that the clear teaching of Scripture is that there is one true God. I wanted to do a quick search before I answered, and Scripture generally uses the term "gods" in reference to...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

So how many Sumerian kings were based on the Nephilim and/or the early patriarchs? Here are a couple of interesting videos about the Sumerian King Lists and their potential relationship to the patriarchs in Genesis 5. Here's one by Michael Heiser https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vW89PK5nBQ Here's o...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

DBowling, Thanks for the response about Adamites. :D My pleasure :) So in a nutshell, the sons of God are people descended from Adam, and daughters of men are daughters descended from humans that preexisted Adam, correct? Yes... My position is that the "daughters of men" are descendants o...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

Don't know if Heiser's thoughts on the specific issue of translating "giants" has already been posted or not: http://drmsh.com/thoughts-nephilim-answering-criticism/ Phillip... in this article Heiser discusses why he thinks the Septuagint translators translated nephilim as "giants&qu...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

That is actually very well reasoned and you make some very valid points. I think that view of Sons of God is far better than the Sethite view and would agree with this one far more than the other. Let me try to address your outstanding issues... The only issue we have left is WHY did the unions res...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

First off,I don't think it is fair to those of us who believe the term "sons od God" refers to fallen angels and not men to claim the bible does not refer to "sons of God" as fallen angels when the bible does not refer to "sons of God" to mean men either. I'll just quo...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

I'm not sure I'm too confident in the Sethite theory about this. I think DBowling may be onto something with his Adamite theory. I believe he's discussed it before. DBowling, maybe you could explain it further, or perhaps link us to where you discussed it before. I think it's at least as good as an...

Re: Were the Nephilim and the Sumerian mythical kings somehow related?

Yet, that is what folks are implying here if we follow their line of reason as a cookie cutter one size all definition for the sons of god phrase. I am unaware of anyone in this thread who does not acknowledge that "sons of God" in Scripture can refer to either God's people or angels base...
